A Labour candidate has urged bus company bosses in Brighton and Hove to offer free travel on Small Business Saturday.
Nancy Platts, the Labour parliamentary candidate in Brighton Kemptown, made the call after councillors voted to offer free parking in five car parks on the day.
Ms Platts said: “Many people who don’t have a car are also on low incomes so I am calling on Brighton and Hove Buses to give them an early Christmas present too by offering free bus travel on the same day as drivers get free parking.
“Free parking is on offer in other parts of the south east but bus users deserve a helping hand as well.
“We need as many people as possible to come into the city centre and do their Christmas shopping locally at our unique and independent shops and this could help boost numbers.”
Parking will be free in five car parks on Saturday 7 December as well as on Sunday 8, 15 and 22 December. The car parks are in
- Trafalgar Street
- High Street
- Regency Square
- London Road
- Norton Road
