A teenager was rushed to hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a car outside Varndean School this afternoon.

Queues built up as police directed traffic around the site of the crash in Ditchling Road.

A police spokesman said: “Police received a report of a collision between a car and a child in Balfour Road, Brighton, about 3.14pm on Tuesday (27 November).

“Emergency services attended and the boy, believed to be in his teens, was taken to Royal Sussex County Hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

“Police stood down from the scene as of 3.55pm.”
