The rate of new coronavirus cases in Brighton and Hove remains among the highest in England, according to figures published by Public Health England.
In the seven days to Monday 9 August there were 1,339 new cases in Brighton and Hove – up from 1,324 in the previous seven days period to Monday 2 August.
This equated to a rate of 459 new cases for every 100,000 people, up from 454 the previous week.
Only seven districts out of 315 in England recorded a higher rate in the week to Monday 9 August.
The number of patients in the Royal Sussex County Hospital with covid-19 has risen to 22, with six of those in intensive care or high dependency beds.
At least one child with covid – but fewer than six – is in the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital with the virus.
The number of people to have died with covid-19 mentioned on their death certificate remained at 479.
The vaccination rate in Brighton and Hove remained below average although the area has a higher proportion of young people than many other areas. Most older people are fully vaccinated.
This heralds a grim autumn, which will soon be upon us. So many factors.
