Toilets in two Brighton parks have been closed because of vandalism.
Brighton and Hove City Council tweeted this afternoon: “Unfortunately, we’ve had to close public toilets in Queens Park and Preston Park due to vandalism.
“The sites will remain closed while we assess and fix the damage.”
The toilets in Queens Park had only recently reopened after being closed for months because of budget and staffing issues.

Usual sign of low intelligence in Brighton, perhaps the Greens were right in not wanting to reopen them… Probably best not to report these incidents.
Maybe if there were punitive sanction against vandals, this thing wouldn’t happen?
Unfortunately, even if they were caught, they would probably just get a ticking off. Such is the ridiculous level of punishment given out to criminals now by judges, who appear to be living on another planet.
I often pass a building whose owners are forever having to paint over graffiti on its white walls. It is really sickening. Fines of £500 would be more appropriate.
For all the money it cost to refurbish and maintain the public toilets, wouldn’t it be easier and cheaper to bring back attendances .
I think you’re right, how much does it cost to employ an attendant vs the cost of constant refurbishment? A combination of part time attendants, CCTV (on the outside of the building obviously), public involvement, police involvement and some meaningful prosecutions could make a huge difference. Otherwise we may as well surrender the city to the yobs.
The city is an ugly, dirty mess and the Council does nothing to push back to make anti-social behaviour unacceptable. Vandalism, tags everywhere including the defacement of churches, shops and people’s homes. I cannot understand why people visit this city. It is grimy, grotty, full of graffiti grunge, the pavements are black with filth, and no Tourist Information Centre as we do not care about tourists, and the closure of public toilets. What a tip, what a disgrace, what a lack of civic pride and a Council sitting back and allowing morons to trash our city.
