Everton boss David Moyes has warned Brighton and Hove Albion fans that “the grass isn’t always greener” as the rumbles of discontent grow about the club’s results under Fabian Hürzeler.
Moyes, 62, even tipped Hürzeler as a future manager of the Germany national side.
Albion head coach Hürzeler, 32, is under pressure from some Brighton fans after picking up just nine Premier League points from the past 33.
The Seagulls were on course for a much-needed victory on Saturday (31 January) before Everton snatched a 1-1 draw at the Amex thanks to a stoppage-time equaliser from birthday boy Beto.
On Hürzeler, Moyes said: “He’s doing unbelievable. He’s doing a brilliant, brilliant job for Brighton. He really is. And you should consider yourselves incredibly lucky to have such a manager.
“I’ve been in a couple of places recently where the grass isn’t always greener. The manager here is doing a really good job. It’s an incredibly well-run club with good ideas.
“Sometimes you’ve just got to remember where your place is. You’ve got an excellent manager.
“In fact, you might have a manager who, in the end, will probably go on to be the manager of the German national team in years to come.
“You’ve certainly got someone who I think has got big prospects.”
Substitute Beto marked his 28th birthday by pouncing on a rebound in the seventh minute of added time to cancel out Pascal Gross’s first goal since rejoining Brighton from Borussia Dortmund.
Moyes added: “Everybody’s been desperate for Beto to do well and he continues to work like a beast every day to try to improve himself.
“Sometimes in life, the harder you work, the luckier you get – and he did.”
