A fire has damaged a house just off Elm Grove, in Brighton.
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: “At 11.38am today, we were called to a fire in Bonchurch Road, Brighton.
“Five appliances are on scene. Please avoid the area whilst we work hard to deal with the incident. Nearby residents asked to keep doors and windows closed.
“All persons accounted for and occupants had evacuated before the arrival of the fire service.
“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus are tackling the fire using one hose-reel jet.
“Gas and electric supplies have been isolated by crews.”
The fire service issued an update, saying: “As of 1.01pm, the incident has been scaled back to two appliances. Please continue to avoid the area.”
No casualties have been reported.
In a further update, the fire service said: “Crews have now left the scene after damping down and checking for hot spots.
“A stop message came in at 3.47pm.
“The fire is being treated as accidental.
“The incident has now been handed over to the occupier of the property.
“A reinspection will take place later this evening.”
