Hidden Herd Presents is Brighton’s new music discovery night, spotlighting the most exciting emerging artists, ones-to-watch and hidden gems.
This time, come to The Hope & Ruin on Thursday 22nd October for YAANG, Noon Garden, Club Magic and Espuma.
Described as “one of the most exciting bands to come from the North West” in the NME 100 hype list, Manchester-based trio YAANG make a sound that resists easy categorisation, wrapping up punk, motorik, art rock and dance beats into an irresistible package. Comprised of Davey Moore (vocals/sampler), Oliver Duffy (guitar/vocals) and former Working Men’s Club member Ben White (bass), YAANG have been championed by Steve Lamacq, Huw Stephens and Emily Pilbeam on BBC Radio 6 Music, as well as John Kennedy on Radio X, alongside support from DIY, The Line of Best Fit and Duran Duran frontman Simon Le Bon. The band have steadily built a reputation for their furious, high-energy live shows, where pulsating drum loops, razor-sharp guitars, huge hooks and a wicked sense of humour collide. Their breakneck performances have won over a growing legion of fans through shows with Death From Above 1979, Getdown Services and Maruja, as well as standout festival appearances at Manchester Psych Fest, Left of the Dial in Rotterdam and Brighton’s own Mutations Festival, where the queue snaked down the street for their packed-out set at Patterns.
Noon Garden is the exotic psych-pop solo project of South London multi-instrumentalist and producer Charles Prest, a founding member of international psych-rock explorers Flamingods, who has also performed as a live member of Los Bitchos and Snapped Ankles. British-born with Nigerian and Jamaican heritage, Prest spent much of his childhood in Bahrain, helping shape the rich mix of ideas and influences that informs his eclectic approach to songwriting. His debut album, ‘Beulah Spa’, draws on worldly sounds spanning Francis Bebey and Dur-Dur Band to Shintaro Sakamoto and Ariel Pink, tearing up the sonic rulebook to conjure a distant world where grooves meander through African disco, funk and psychedelia. A key figure in London’s alternative scene for over a decade, Prest has worked with Grammy-winning producer Ben H. Allen III (M.I.A., Gnarls Barkley, Animal Collective) in Atlanta, released music via esteemed labels Soundway Records and Dan Carey’s Speedy Wunderground and opened for the likes of Hot Chip at Brixton Academy.
Brighton-based indie-electronic outfit Club Magic blend shimmering synths, infectious grooves and raw live energy to create a sound that feels both nostalgic and futuristic. Drawing inspiration from the vibrant underground electronic scene, alongside the art-rock eccentricity of Talking Heads and the genre-defying production of cult icon Andrew Weatherall, the band fuse psychedelic textures with postmodern songwriting to craft anthems built for late-night drives and hazy dance floors. Their debut EP, ‘On The Stereo, Loud’, was released in April and features the standout single ‘WOW’, which was championed by Melita Dennett on BBC Music Introducing and selected as John Kennedy’s Hot One on his Radio X show X-Posure. Live, Club Magic recently headlined a packed-out show at Brighton’s Alphabet, accompanied by the immersive psychedelic visuals of Innerstrings.
With members spanning the UK, Bulgaria and Germany, London-based six-piece Espuma draw on their international roots to weave an eclectic and hypnotic tapestry of late-60s psychedelia, Latin rhythms, folk tales and hazy grooves. Championed by Amy Lamé on BBC Radio 6 Music, the band released their acclaimed second EP, ‘Magic Valley’, in 2025 – a kaleidoscopic sonic voyage recalling the expansive, sun-drenched textures of Khruangbin and beyond. Their high-octane, fun-packed live performances have seen them light up iconic London venues including The Garage, embark on a mini-tour of Germany, and appear at festivals such as Freakout in Seattle and the Berlin Folk Festival. Along the way, they’ve also shared stages with a host of psych and 60s-tinged favourites including Holiday Ghosts, Japanese Television, Karma Sheen, Floral Image and FEZ.
