Hove car thief jailed after 130mph chase

A motorcyclist is seriously injured in hospital after crashing with a van on the seafront this morning.

The A259 is closed from the Palace Pier to West Street and traffic through the city centre is gridlocked as a result.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash, which happened at about 10.25am.

A police spokeswoman said: “We are appealing for witnesses, and anyone with dashcam footage, to email collision.appeal@sussex.police.uk, quoting serial 368 of 13/05.”

Unless you have definite evidence or knowledge of what caused the RTC, I suggest you desist from such statements.

It’s never nice to hear these things although I would have thought it would be quite difficult to have a serious accident around that area because the traffic generally moves so slowly! Now that they’re replacing the pier roundabout with traffic lights the congestion and general frustration will obviously get a worse too. Great to finally get a cycle lane down to the seafront though.

Most of the congestion is caused by people driving increasingly massive cars and suvs around an already congested city with only one person in them. We should really shift to some sort of personal electric transport for travel around the inner city to ease congestion and improve air quality. If you can afford a massive car and petrol for it then you can afford a small one person EV that costs next to nothing to run. Leave the su at home and nip around in your little ev instead. I can’t see this happening for a while though!
