New mayor of Brighton and Hove takes over

Councillor Amanda Grimshaw, the mayor of Brighton and Hove

The mayor of Brighton and Hove is to welcome people to a community meet up today (Thursday 23 April) as Brighton and Hove City Council reviews local services.

The mayor, Councillor Amanda Grimshaw, is supporting the council’s community engagement team as it looks at what support is needed at the northern end of Hangleton.

While the Hangleton and Knoll Project has proved a great success for thousands of people in one of the most deprived parts of Hove, some believe that the top end of Hangleton can seem cut off at times.

The community engagement team has been out door-knocking to speak to people about local issues and challenges, wellbeing and support needs.

And there is also a short online survey aimed at encouraging people to speak up about things such as repairs, safety, community spaces, wellbeing, isolation and the local environment.

The council said: “You may have had the council’s community engagement team at your door over the last few days as they’re keen to understand our community, what matters most to you and how local services can work better together.

“If you haven’t had a door knock and would like your views to be heard, you can complete this online survey.”

The mayor will be attending the Hangleton community meet up at St Helen’s Church Hall, in Hangleton Way, Hove, from 2pm to 7pm today.

The council said: “Join the council’s community engagement team and our local partners including St Helen’s Church and the Hangleton Community Centre and the Oasis Community Shop to help us understand what matters most to you and your community and share how local services can work better together.

“Come along to share your ideas and concerns, learn more about local organisations and the support available and enjoy activities for families.”
