‘No cold calling’ zone set up in Saltdean

Neighbourhood Watch and Sussex Police have teamed up to try to stop vulnerable residents being targeted on their doorsteps.

The Brighton and Hove Neighbourhood Policing Team and West Saltdean Neighbourhood Watch have set up a “no cold calling” zone.

Sussex Police created signs and door stickers for residents’ properties in response to a number of resident’s complaints through the Neighbourhood Watch.

Kevin Brown, the public engagement officer in Brighton and Hove, said: “This is a great example of a Neighbourhood Watch group and local police working together.

“We have listened to the community’s concerns and acted upon them.

“Members of West Saltdean Neighbourhood Watch and local police staff will be delivering door stickers across the area soon.

“We hope that residents will support this initiative and display the sticker in windows and on front doors.

“The idea of a no cold calling zone is to empower residents to say ‘No’ to rogue traders and companies that may use hard selling or underhand sales tactics at the door.

“We advise that you only deal with traders who are recognised and you have booked an appointment with.

“Any resident who gets a knock at the door from an uninvited trader you should report this to Trading Standards via Citizens Advice consumer service on 03454 040506.”

Could Trading Standards clarify whether or not this also applies to the charity ‘fundraisers’ who have been out in force today to try and get my elderly neighbours’ bank details off them on their doorstep?
