Brighton & Hove Albion: Lazio win at Amex – Gazza not in the building

Brighton & Hove Albion 0 Lazio 1

Albion lost to former Serie A champions Lazio in a pre-season friendly at the Amex amid rumours that the ex-Newcastle, Tottenham, Lazio and England superstar Paul Gascoigne was at the match.

Last season’s Albion superstars Anthony Knockaert and Beram Kayal looked impressive for the Seagulls.

Knockaert linked up well with Jamie Murphy, the Frenchman knocking in the sort of crosses that have alerted Newcastle to his talents.

It was also Glenn Murray’s fourth Amex appearance but his first for the Albion. Murray partnered Tomer Hemed in attack.

It was an Englishman who got the goal – the Manchester-born former West Ham star Ravel Morrison putting the vistitors ahead on 26 minutes.

Knockaert had a chance to equalise from a Gaetan Bong cross before half time.

Glenn Murray had a couple of chances for Albion in the second half as did Ogenyi Onazi for Lazio.

The Seagulls had a good shout for a penalty late on but couldn’t quite find a way past the Romans defence.

Albion’s new home shirt with the all white back, looked smart but appeared to cause some confusion. Some players seemingly more comfortable picking out the stripes. The Seagulls reverted to their new black with hint of lime away kit for the second half.

In the stands rumours of Paul Gascoigne being seated in the 1901 seats permeated for a while but Gazza didn’t appear to be in the stadium seats, lounges or bars though. Or any part of the building.

Elvis was there though!
