Small Brighton parking zone asked if it wants to join larger one

Residents in the Zone U parking scheme which covers the St Luke’s area of Brighton can now choose whether to join with the neighbouring Queens Park scheme (Zone C) or stay as they are.

Residents have until 31 August to express their views on the proposed detailed scheme and can take part online at www.brighton-hove.gov.uk/zoneu

There is also an unstaffed exhibition during the consultation period at the Parking Information Centre in Hove Town Hall, Monday to Friday, 9am to 1pm and Saturday 9am to 1pm.

Currently Zone U operates Monday to Saturday between the hours of 10 to 11am and 2 to 3pm.

In April Zone U residents were asked whether they would like to change the times and/or days of their zone by joining with one of the neighbouring parking zones.

More than half of households responded with 66% in favour of joining a full residents’ parking scheme. Out of those who responded, nearly 91% said they would like to join the Queens Park residents’ parking scheme which operates from 9am to 8pm Monday to Sunday.

Residents’ parking schemes have come on stream in neighbouring Hanover & Elm Grove and Craven Vale in the last few months which has led to increased parking pressures for local residents, visitors and businesses.

Anyone needing further information before filling in the questionnaire can email parking.scheme@brighton-hove.gov.uk or call 01273 292235 between 09.30am and 12 noon Monday to Friday.

Residents in the current Zone C (Queens Park) will have the opportunity to make comments if the proposal proceeds to the next stage of the consultation through the legal traffic order. The results of the detailed design consultation will be reported back to the Environment, Transport & Sustainability Committee on 27 November.

this was very useful the other day to be able to park here. There should be parking near parks, but i predict they will vote for a full scheme and then zone S will follow next year, sad times
