Well here’s something to really look forward to next summer! Saturday 13th July 2019, will be a fab one for the local punk fraternity as the legendary Pauline Murray will be bringing her chums Penetration back to Sussex.

They will be appearing at the ever popular Con Club in Lewes and I strongly suspect that there will be a decent support band or two being lined up as I write this article!

Penetration is a punk band from County Durham. They formed in Ferryhill as The Points in 1976. They played their first gig as The Points at the Rock Garden pub in Middlesbrough in October of that year, however they changed their name to Penetration, after a 1973 tune by Iggy & The Stooges. Their second gig was supporting The Stranglers at Newcastle City Hall. Significantly, the band also played at the now-legendary punk club The Roxy during its first 100 days. On 9 April 1977, the band appeared on the same bill as Generation X. Early in their career, the band also supported The Vibrators and toured with the Buzzcocks.

Penetrations 4 albums: ‘Moving Targets’, ‘Coming Up For Air’, ‘Race Against Time’ and ‘Resolution’

Penetration’s debut single, ‘Don’t Dictate’, is now regarded a classic punk rock single and their debut album, ‘Moving Targets’, is still widely admired. My personal favourite Penetration track is ‘Danger Signs’ and that will amazingly be 40 years old by the time Penetration rock up at Lewes.

The current Penetration lineup features original members Pauline Murray (vocals), Robert Blamire (bass) along with Steve Wallace, Paul Harvey on guitars and the legendary John Maher (Buzzcocks, Invisible Girls) on drums.

This is a show not to be missed and so grab your tickets HERE.

The Brighton & Hove News music team covered their last Sussex gig and so you can read all about it HERE.
