Brighton and Hove estate agents will learn next month whether their for sale boards have been sucessfully banned by the city council.
A hearing at Hove Town Hall yesterday heard representations from estate agents and residents about the impact on the boards – and the possible consequences of the ban
The Government Inspector tasked with making the decision on whether the boards should be banned from the central conservation areas from Kemp Town to Sackville Road, Hove, and Hove Street will now be published in April.
Liberal Democrat councillor for Brunswick Paul Elgood said on his blog: “The original control order has been a tremendous success and made a huge contribution to improving the historic squares and terraces. It really must be extended, and for me the only question is how far.”
The boards are already banned in some listed buildings in the city, including those in Brunswick Square, Adelaide Crescent, Montpelier Crescent and Sussex Square.

I think its a very positive step and I hope the ban goes through. The boards are an eyesore and rows of boards up in a recession create a negative vibe to visitors to the City and detract the from the extraordinary beauty of the architecture that we take for granted in this great City.
