The man found on a Brighton beach in a pin-striped suit and unable to remember who he was has been identified, according to Sussex Police.

He was found two weeks ago but officers had been unable to identify him until he was pictured in the media.

After seeing his picture, a woman from London travelled to Brighton and said that the man was her fiancé.

Officers checked out the woman’s claims and believe that the mystery man is a 26-year-old Londoner.

Sussex Police said: “The man remains at the Royal Sussex County Hospital for the time being while doctors consider any further health needs he may have.”

Inspector Roy Apps said: “We are grateful to the media for the publicity which has resulted in our solving this mystery.”

The force also said that the case was no longer a police matter, adding that the hospital would not be releasing the man’s identity or issuing any further information about him.

The man’s family have been informed and neither they nor the man have given authority for his identity to be released.
