The water main under a mile of Brighton seafront is to be replaced with work starting on Monday (3 December).
The work will take place along Madeira Drive between Duke’s Mound and the Madeira Café and is due to be completed by the end of February.
Southern Water said: “This will reduce the risk of leaks, bursts and interruption to customers’ supplies.
“To minimise disruption and reduce the number of parking spaces temporarily lost, contractor Clancy Docwra will be laying the new pipe in 50m sections.
“Access to businesses will be maintained throughout the work.
“Southern Water has liaised with the seafront office and Brighton and Hove City Council and has contacted individual customers to explain the scheme.”
Project Manager Mark Newman said: “These water mains were laid many years ago and although they’ve served us well, they’re starting to show their age.
“Reducing impact is a priority for us and we’ve planned the scheme in a way which will keep disruption to a minimum.”
