A woman who glued herself to the gates of a Brighton factory is due to challenge her conviction for aggravated trespass at Lewes Crown Court tomorrow (Tuesday 19 March).
Jessica Nero, 36, is appealing against the verdict last August of Brighton Magistrates’ Court when she was given a conditional discharge.
She was taking part in a protest organised by Smash EDO which is campaigning against EDO MBM Technology, a subsidiary of the American corporation ITT.
EDO MBM Technology is based in Home Farm Road, Moulsecoomb, and describes itself as a manufacturer of air and spacecraft and related machinery.
Smash EDO says that it makes weapons parts used illegally by Israel to commit war crimes against the people of Gaza.
This claim is central to the appeal which is listed for a two-day hearing tomorrow and on Wednesday (20 March) when it will be heard by Recorder Antony Chinn and two magistrates.
A conviction for aggravated trespass requires that the activity disrupted must be lawful.
Ms Nero aims to show that EDO MBM Technology was in breach of a number of laws, including the Cluster Munitions (Prohibitions) Act 2010, when she was arrested in April 2011.
She is being represented by Kelly’s Solicitors, of St George’s Place, Brighton.
