Firefighters rescued a couple from their dog after it turned on them in their flat in the centre of Brighton.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: “Brighton firefighters rescued two people, including the dog’s owner, from a second-floor flat using an extension ladder.

Sussex Police requested assistance from East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service after reports of an aggressive dog at a property in Ashton Rise, Brighton, on Sunday morning (18 August) at 8.57am.

“Crews remained at the scene until 9.18am.”

The dog was believed to be a Staffordshire bull terrier which attacked as the pair were having a row in the Courtlands block of flats.

The couple were treated at the scene for their bites by firefighters before paramedics from the South East Coast Ambulance Service took over.

The dog was later removed by specialist handlers.
