Brighton and Hove Albion’s Casper Ankergren is helping to start a new goalkeeping academy.
He will be holding a free coaching session at the academy’s first session on Sunday 8 September.
The academy is being run by Darren Lambert who is confident that he can help goalkeepers who have potential to make it into professional football with coaching and guidance.
The first session of GK Icon Mid Sussex will run from 2pm to 4pm on Sunday 8 September at St Paul’s Catholic College in Burgess Hill.
Mr Lambert said: “I want to provide goalkeepers of all ages and abilities the chance to get specific and dedicated goalkeeper training which is generally not available at their clubs.
“I remember as a goalkeeper having only a small part of a training session loosely dedicated to my needs and this normally involved players smashing balls at me from ten to 15 yards out – and they normally went six yards over the bar.
“I want to ensure that goalkeepers can come and train to work on drills that will actually improve their game while ensuring that their natural abilities are harnessed.
“It would be amazing if one of the keepers coming to my centre went on to be the next Ben Foster or Joe Hart.
“With the right attitude, dedication and regular coaching from GK Icon I am confident that there are goalkeepers out there in Mid Sussex that could make it into the professional game.”
He said that the free launch session would include goalkeeping training for all ages with FA qualified coaches and professional goalkeepers on hand to offer tips and advice.
The session would also include a chance to question the Albion goalkeeper.
