Murder investigation launched after man killed under wheels of Tesco lorry in Western Road

A murder investigation has been launched after a fight outside a pub in Brighton ended with one of the men dead under the wheels of a passing lorry in the early hours of this morning.

The victim, a 23-year-old man, died after being hit by the Tesco lorry in Western Road, near the junction of Temple Street, at 2.40am.

A 27-year-old Hove man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is in custody.

Western Road from Montpelier Road to Norfolk Square is currently closed in both directions while investigations are being carried out.

Detective Chief Inspector Tanya Jones, from the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team, said: “This has been a fast-moving investigation and we have arrested a man on suspicion of murder.

“However, we are still appealing for witnesses who may have seen the fight which spilled into Western Road and then the victim being hit by a lorry. If you have any information about this incident please contact us.”

Witnesses say they saw the man, who appeared to be on his way home from a night out, sitting at tables outside the closed Temple Inn, just before the incident.

Moments later, he was in the road having been hit by the lorry.

Emergency services rushed to the scene but he was pronounced dead at the scene. A forensics tent is still up in Western Road this morning.

Witnesses or anyone with information should email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk or ring 101 quoting Operation Longthorpe.

I was talking with somebody in the vicinity today, and there could be rather more to the story, according to the witness with whom he spoke this morning.

Yes it does actually because it was under the tesco vehicle what belongs to tesco
