Brighton man stabbed during robbery by ‘ghost train’

A Brighton man was stabbed during a robbery by a “ghost train” in the New England area of the town.

Two men had their bikes stolen in the robbery which happened on the Greenway, between New England Road and Stroudley Road, yesterday afternoon (Sunday 8 October).

Sussex Police said this morning: “Police are appealing for witnesses to a robbery in Brighton, during which a man was stabbed.

“Two 19-year-old men, both from Brighton, were approached by a group of men demanding property on the Brighton Greenway – a nature trail which runs between New England Road and Stroudley Road.

“One of the victims was stabbed in the shoulder and both had their mountain bikes stolen.

“The incident occurred between 2pm and 3pm on Sunday 8 October by the Ghost Train sculpture.”

Detective Constable Andrew Beaumont, of Brighton Investigations, said: “The victim who was stabbed received a single serious but not life-threatening injury to his shoulder.

“The second victim received no injuries.

“We are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident, or has any information which could assist us with our investigation, to get in touch.

“We are also urging anyone who has any information about the stolen bikes – specialised mountain bikes in black and blue – to come forward.”
