Brighton police started their day with a bang this morning when they helped detonate a Second World War shell at the Devil’s Dyke.

A passer-by called police when they saw the mortar shell and arranged to meet PCSOs to show them where it was.
The army’s ordnance team were then called to carry out a controlled explosion.
