Black smoke from a car fire on the A27 billowed over the Amex stadium this afternoon.
The car was seen engulfed in flames by the side of the road as Brighton and Hove Albion played Everton.
A spokeswoman for East Sussex Fire and Rescue said: “We were called on 24 February at 4.08pm to a single vehicle fire on the A27 eastbound, Hove.
“Three fire engines were in attendance from Preston Circus and Lewes.
“Crews used two breathing apparatus, one hosereel and compressed air foam to extinguish the fire.
“The cause of the fire was deemed to be accidental.
“There were no reports of any casualties.”
