Brighton man jailed for raping 15-year-old girl

Toby Macenzie aka Toby Mackenzie

A Brighton man has been jailed for raping a 15-year-old girl and a court was told that he had also tried to rape a 16-year-old and sexually assaulted her.

Toby Macenzie, 24, also known as Toby Mackenzie, was a teenager himself at the time of the sex attacks and said sorry in text messages sent to one of the girls.

Justice caught up with him and he was jailed for four and a half years by Recorder Quincy Whitaker at Brighton Crown Court this afternoon (Friday 7 November).

Macenzie, who turns 25 in the coming week, of Carlyle Street, Brighton, was convicted of two counts of rape dating back to 2018 when he was 17 years old.

Sussex Police said: “In 2018, Sussex Police received reports from two teenage girls of having been raped by a boy known to them.

“The first victim – who was 16 at the time of the offending – reported Macenzie attempting to rape her and subjecting her to a serious sexual assault after meeting him on holiday in 2018.

“In June of that year, Macenzie also raped a 15-year-old girl in his home after providing her with alcohol. The victim woke to find Macenzie raping her in a bedroom.

“She became unwell and was unable to leave the room, at which point she was raped for a second time by Macenzie.

“Text messages on her phone after the attacks showed the victim reiterating that she had not consented and Macenzie ‘apologising’ for his crimes.

“Both victims were supported by specialist officers which has remained the case throughout the court process.

“Macenzie was arrested and subsequently charged with two counts of raping a girl, attempted rape of a woman over 16 and assault by penetration.”

Detective Constable Stewart Cameron said: “Both of these women have shown incredible courage to not only report Macenzie’s crimes but support what has been a long and complex investigation.

“Thanks to their resolve, a dangerous offender is now behind bars where he can cause no further harm to women and girls.

“If you are a victim of sexual offending, please report it to the police. We will support you and do everything we can to get you justice.”

4 years is that it what a joke that’s not justice,he will be free to do it again and maybe go on to even worse next time.

And if he behaves himself in prison, he could be out on parole in three years. How long will it take his two teenage victims to recover – significantly longer than that, if ever.

Considering CPS drops 75% of cases when mobile phones are not handed over by females .

Surely when you have evidence then something so severe should be a deterrent and give justice to women .

      It doesn’t make sense
