Hundreds of people turned out for a charity fundraising event for the Brighton domestic violence charity Rise.
The event, called End Of, was held at Hove Town Hall and raised more than £15,000.
The performances included a poem read by the newspaper columnist Suzanne Moore, a song by Rose Collis and a reading by Tracey Thorn from her book Disco Queen, which included her Ode to Julie Burchill.
The singer Alison Moyet, who moved to Brighton last year, performed a set which included her first two singles with Yazoo – Only You and Don’t Go.
She was followed by another newspaper columnist Caitlin Moran who read what she called her two greatest hits.
The audience heard a moving personal thank you from a victim of domestic abuse who was helped by Rise – and a reading of the story of another.
The sponsors included Sussex Style magazine, Julia Claxton Photography, the Treatment Rooms, the Grand Hotel, Moshimo, Terre à Terre and Misty’s Wine Bar.
Thanks were also said to Julie Burchill – another journalist, with her home in Brighton – for inspiring the event.
