Why should the kids have all the fun? Funk-Tastic Retro Night for grown-ups launches in Brighton & Hove on Saturday 6th October at the King Alfred Ballroom, Hove.

After sell-out events in London and Croydon, ‘Haven’t Stopped Dancing Yet’ – as featured on BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio London & in Time Out London – is now bringing the disco love to our city.

Mum-of-two, Nikki Spencer, started 70s & 80s soul, funk & disco nights ‘Haven’t Stopped Dancing Yet’ when she was in her 40s. She still wanted to be able to go out dancing but without feeling like she was gate-crashing one of her teenage daughters’ parties.

As the name suggests ‘Haven’t Stopped Dancing Yet’ is all about getting up and dancing and the crew will be joined on stage by Brighton’s JP Omari who runs hugely popular FunkFit UK classes in the city & will lead flashmob style routines to classics such as Car Wash (complete with glittery rags) and the 1978 track after which the night takes its name.

HSDY host nights at a variety of historic ballrooms, including Islington Assembly Hall and Blackheath Halls. Nikki had been looking for a Brighton venue for a long time when she came across the King Alfred Ballroom on a trip to Hove earlier this year.

“Regulars have been asking us to do a night in Brighton for years but finding a venue available was difficult. The King Alfred Ballroom is a fabulous space and sadly under-used due to current uncertainty over redevelopment plans. We are so excited to be able to give it some Saturday night disco sparkle.”

“My cousin, who lives in Hove, had been to JP’s FunkFit dance classes so suggested we ask him to join us for the night & he loved the idea. We took part in one of his sessions the other day & it was such fun. FunkFit and HSDY is a match made in disco heaven!”, adds Nikki.

‘Haven’t Stopped Dancing Yet’ offers an unashamedly retro night “for people who remember the tunes first time round and still want to party & everyone else who loves a boogie”.

“Most clubs are aimed at people in their early 20s but the fact is people don’t stop wanting to go out dancing when they hit their 40s and 50s and the success of HSDY goes to show that – although everyone over 18 is welcome. Some people bring their grown-up kids or vice versa. It is such a great night out & all ages love the music and the feelgood vibe.”

HSDY is more than just a disco. Hula-hooping vinyl DJ Da’Lynne (Street Feast, Dreamland Margate) will be on the decks playing the classic 70s & 80s floorfillers, and in addition to dancer-led routines there’s a best retro outfit competition & free Love Hearts & ice pops.

Nikki gives 10% profits from HSDY nights to Cancer Research UK. Both her parents have had cancer.
