Art of Attachment is the culmination of a collaborative project between Vincent Dance Theatre and the Brighton Oasis Project (BOP) – a unique substance misuse service working with women and families in Brighton & Hove. Guests will be treated to two new performances developed through months of creative collaboration between acclaimed artists and the women and families accessing BOP throughout 2018.
Acclaimed director and choreographer Charlotte Vincent offers a “hard hitting, uplifting and dynamic production” based on real life testimonies of the impact that drug and alcohol use has had on people’s lives and relationships. Through her interviews and workshops with the women and young people affected by these issues as well as the professionals working with them, the production aims to bring to the stage “voices that demand to be heard”.
As if that weren’t enough to get us running to the Attenborough Centre next week, award winning poet, playwright and broadcaster Lemn Sissay will be performing his new work, based on poetry workshops with service users at BOP. Many of the young people will have experienced the impact of interventions and childhood institutionalisation that Sissay has first hand experience of.
Regardless of your familiarity with the underlying issues, this promises to be an important production that’s not to be missed.
Art of Attachment is directed by Charlotte Vincent, and devised by women from Brighton Oasis Project in collaboration with Vincent Dance Theatre and Lemn Sissay, with support from the Wellcome trust.
