Hove man arrested for golf course murder

A 21-year-old man from Hove has been arrested on suspicion of the murder of Stefan Welch whose badly burnt body was found on The Dyke Golf Club near Brighton on Saturday.

The man was arrested in Hove a few minutes before noon today and is being taken to Brighton custody suite for questioning by officers from Sussex Police Major Crime Branch.

The identity of Mr Welch, 37, from Oriental Place, Brighton, was made public yesterday.

He is believed to have died from a blow to the head and his body taken to the golf course next to the Devil’s Dyke where it was burnt and hidden in the undergrowth.

Golfers found Mr Welch’s body just before noon on Saturday.
