Albion land home tie in FA Cup as Fatboy Slim pulls Woking out of the hat

Brighton and Hove Albion have been drawn at home to non-league Woking in the FA Cup first round.

Once Albion had been picked, one of the club’s best-known fans, Norman Cook aka Fatboy Slim, drew our opponents who are mid-table in the Blue Square Bet South.

The tie is due to be played on Saturday 6 November at Withdean.

The clubs met in the second round of the cup 18 years ago with Woking coming into the game with a reputation as giant-killers.

The previous season they had claimed an Albion scalp – West Brom being their third round victims.

But in 1992, with Brighton facing a High Court winding-up order brought by the Inland Revenue, the Conference side drew at the Goldstone before Albion won the replay 2-1 at Kingfield.

In the replay, Woking took an early lead. But goals from Robert Codner and Johnny Crumplin (football genius) saved the Seagulls’ blushes and set up a lucrative third round home tie against Portsmouth.

Albion made it to the fourth round last season when they lost 3-2 at Aston Villa.
