The Bilingual Primary School Brighton and Hove opened for lessons in its new premises next to Hove Park this morning (Thursday 25 February).

Head teacher Wendy King said welcome – and bienvenido – to 250 children who were being taught in English and Spanish in borrowed classrooms in another Brighton school until the half-term break.

The new site, in The Droveway, Hove, will eventually have 630 children, with 90 children expected to join the expanding school each September.

Ms King said: “We are so excited to finally open the doors to our school in our brand new building.

“It is the end of a very long journey for many founders, staff, governors and parents who have worked so hard to get us to this point.

“Now we are in a position to move forward using our fantastic facilities to further enrich our educational curriculum and play a role in the local community.”

The bilingual school pupils were previously taught on the site of the Brighton Aldridge Community Academy (BACA) in Falmer.

Fabulous to see. A very exciting opportunity for all children in the city and a huge achievement for all those who worked so hard to make this happen.

This makes it all worth the 3 and a half years of driving to Falmer. We finally have our own wonderful home. I had two very excited children this morning.

Wonderful to be in the new school! Thanks to all those whose hard work made it possible. We look forward to sharing the bilingual journey with more local families!
