Hove Jewish hub officially opened by Chief Rabbi

l-r Rabbi Hershel Rader of Brighton and Hove Hebrew congregation; Marc Sugarman, CEO of BNJC; Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis; Tony Bloom, Chair of The Bloom Foundation; Natasha Isaac, Trustee of BNJC

The new Jewish hub in Hove was officially opened by the Chief Rabbi this weekend after three years of construction.

The new development on 29-31 New Church Road, hosts 45 new homes, a community hub, kosher restaurant Novellino, workspace, synagogue and nursery.

Over 200 people attended a reception and L’Chaim toast to celebrate the new space.

Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis made a speech in the new synagogue, as did Brighton and Hove Albion Chairman, Tony Bloom who helped fund the large-scale development.

Chief Rabbi Mirvis said: “This hub of Jewish life will be a beacon of Jewish identity with the power to cultivate interfaith relationships and make a lasting impact on the entire city.

“I hope that it will put Brighton on the Jewish map and the Jewish community on Brighton’s map.”

An official ribbon cutting ceremony outside the Sapphire Tube Wall was followed by the crowd spontaneously joining together in song.

The Jewish Community hub, aimed at revitalising Jewish life in the town is the project of Brighton and Hove Jewish Community (BNJC).

The project was launched in 2017 with support from The Bloom Foundation and in partnership with Brighton and Hove Hebrew Congregation (BHHC).

Just like the state of Israel , not much integration going on here and as so Kosher and halal meat, both should be banned!

In what way is this lacking integration?

The kosher restaurant & accommodation is available to the whole community – Jewish or non Jewish.
It is a fine venue with great facilities.
    Wishing the venture, much success

It’s not for the people of Hove fella, it’s just another Jewish facility for the Jewish Community, in my eyes it may as well be a mosque and meeting rooms, it’s not for your Joe average!

Looks like a good place. Food, gym, films etc all open to the public. As is the synagogue if you want to go. Need to get through security but cant blame them for that with all the extremists the governemnt has let in the country.

Such a travesty that Hyman Fine care home was taken away from the Jewish community, the ramifications have been life changing. Shame on you Jewish Care.

And yet Hyman Fine care home was taken away from the community causing life changing ramifications. Where will the Jewish community go in their twilight years?

A wonderful contribution for the wider Bighton and Hove community while enhancing the offerings for the large local Jewish community. Thank you Tony Bloom!

Maybe now they resurface the streach of New Curch Road that was missed due to this being built.
Good looking development here unlike all the other ghettos blotting the landscape around Hove Station

It’ll only serve as a facility for Jewish alone don’t kid yourselves. Who really cares though?

I think it’s lovely to be able to eat at a Jewish restaurant and be made so welcome. I would love to go to Hebrew classes and learn about Jewish culture.
