Luxury showhome for sale at £2.2m at new development

A detached four-bedroom house at the new Skylarks development in Ovingdean has gone on sale for £2.2 million.

The house is advertised as being ready to move into in the new year.

The luxury show home has already hosted a launch party by developers, Brookworth Homes, to celebrate the housing development being completed.

An advert for the home says that it features integrated Miele appliances and a Quooker boiling water tap, as well as four “spa-like bathrooms”.

The listing on Rightmove advertises the property as part of a “prestigious development that must be seen to be appreciated,” with “architecturally exceptional residences using locally sourced materials.”

The show home has a large south-facing garden – complete with its own garden bar and external kitchen.

The interior of the house was designed by Andrew Henry Interiors, with automated blinds and a study.

Skylarks, off Ovingdean Road is a 45-house development on the edge of the Rottingdean Parish boundary, sited on land known as Meadow Vale.

The £20 million housing development was approved by councillors in June 2021.

It’s good to see some affordable housing being built in Brighton;* according to the website the cheapest house available is a tad under a million pounds!!!
Isn’t it time the council started approving homes for ordinary people to live in?

    *sarcasm…

The council can only consider the applications made to it.

It might want private developers to build lots of affordable homes but that’s not a criteria for rejecting an application.

Where does the funding come from? Do you work? Are you happy to pay more tax?

Raising tax to the maximum amount legally allowed is an option for BHCC, incidentally.

B&HCC already does that but all the cash goes to pay for all the other services the council provides.

Housing is financed by a separate account (mainly from council house rents and charges)

By law the accounts have to be kept separate and council tax funds can’t be used to build new housing.

More homes, even silly expensive ones like this, mean lower prices overall.

Moaning on ‘where are the affordable homes’ is just the same as ‘no new homes anywhere please’ and is shameful behaviour

I don’t think the people moaning about no affordable houses are the people objecting to new houses being built. You’re mixing up two seperate groups of people here.

Building any homes at any cost doesn’t necessarily get more people housed. They could be bought as second homes for example. Besides that, encouraging people to occupy bigger houses than they really need, worsens the situation for everyone else.

There is so called affordable housing on this site. 3 bedroom semi for around £900,000 and you can pay some ridiculous mortgage/rent and eventually be the proud owner of approximately 40% of the value. What’s not to like……oh and as I understand it the land on the affordables is leasehold so we know what that means. Happy New Year!!!!

Are you referring to Shared Ownership there, Richard? I’m…not entirely convinced by them. I’ve heard some service charge increase shenanigans cripple some individuals.

Yep, shared ownership, and should the current leasehold be sold off to some unscrupulous business or individual who then hikes the charges to unaffordable levels, god help you.

Indeed, I think there needs to be more regulation to ensure that doesn’t happen.

They destroyed a beautiful wildflower meadow to build these houses for the hard working people of London to move down here.

Brighton and Hove council playing a blinder once again…..Not!!!

The government changed planning law so that there is always a presumption in favour of a development and the planning committee has very few grounds on refusing an application.

And if they did refuse the developer would appeal and a planning inspector would grant the permission anyway,

Planning committee cannot refuse an application just because councillors might prefer something else happen with the land.

Jeez if l was going to pay £2.2 million for a house l’d want much more than a four-bedroomed house squashed in amongst a shoddy housing estate. Shameful greed from developers as usual.

You could buy a huge chateau in France for less money.
English new builds are old fashioned and well over priced.
Going to move to France asap thank goodness
