Simon Kirby, the Conservative MP for Brighton Kemptown, is seeking urgent talks with the Planning Minister, Bob Neill, to discuss changes to the Brighton Marina Act.
He said that the interpretation of the act, until recently, suggested that only minor small-scale developments above the cliff height at Brighton Marina were permitted.
But, he said, in recent years proposals had been put forward, and in some cases approved, to build blocks of flats above the height of the cliffs.
This had been met with strenuous opposition by local residents affected by the proposals and Mr Kirby pledged to act on their concerns.
He recently tabled an amendment to the Localism Bill to raise the matter in the House of Commons.
And now he written to the Planning Minister, seeking a meeting to discuss how to move forward on the issue.
Mr Kirby said: “By raising this issue in the House, it enabled me to draw to the attention of the government and Parliament the concerns that many constituents have raised with me regarding the prospect of massive out-of-keeping towers being built at the marina.
“My letter to the Planning Minister, Bob Neill, explains that I will seek to keep raising the matter in the House of Commons but would welcome the chance to meet him so we can discuss a way forward.
“I will keep my constituents advised as I make progress.”
