Brighton & Hove Albion: Bolton wander back to Brighton

The Albion take on Bolton Wanderers at the Amex tomorrow afternoon the first time the teams have met in Sussex for over 20 years.

In fact it will be the first time Bolton have ever played a match in Brighton.

The Seagulls won when the teams last met at the Goldstone by two goals to one and Kurt Nogan score at late winner at Burnden Park in January 1993.

The two teams have rarely met , only 10 times in the past 75 years.

The Seagulls did, though, lose an FA Cup 4th Round match in 1992, at Burnden Park, after young Irish fullback Paul McCarthy gave the Trotters a soft penalty in the closing stages.

The Seagulls played in matching bright red shirts and shorts, which from a distance looked pink.

BBC commentator Gerald Sinstadt set the scene saying it was a match of colours – “Bolton in plain white, Brighton in plain crazy.”

Tomasz Kuszczak is expected to be fit enough to replace Peter Brezovan in goal, with the Slovakian taking his place on the bench. Will Hoskins is widely tipped to be involved in the game as some point as well.

Zat Knight is a minor injury concern for Bolton, and England International Kevin Davies is expected to start up front.

Flame haired Adam Bogdan is excepted to continue in goal as Andy Lonergran recovers from injury.

Adios Azure

The Albion have parted company with Amex catering partner Azure.

The French owned catering giant has come in for massive criticism from Albion fans over the past few months.

Tales of lack of available and cold food and also slow service have being doing the rounds of internet forums and local football websites for months.

Albion’s premier supporters in the 1901 Club area are said to have been totally unsatisfied with the service they have been receiving.

In an email this afternoon to 1901 members chief executive Paul Barber said: “As with any venue, catering represents a very important element of the experience we provide and we have made it a high priority both for our matches and for all other events at the stadium.

“Since the stadium’s opening, we have attempted to meet these very important aims by working closely with a catering partner, Azure.

“Despite our best efforts, many customers do not feel that these aims have been met. With this in mind, we have decided to engage new caterers.”

Emergency caterers will be installed for both the Bolton and Bristol City matches.
