A new head is being sought for the Brighton Aldridge Community Academy in Falmer to replace Phil Hogg when she retires at the end of the summer term.

Applications have to be in by 9am on Monday 11 March with interviews scheduled for Monday 25 March and Tuesday 26 March.

An advert has been placed in the Times Educational Supplement. It said: “If you are looking for a school that is on the up, but where there is still plenty of scope to shape the future, this is it.

Phil Hogg

“As an entrepreneurial academy with a sport specialism our message to students is ‘Believe you can’.

“There has been an unrelenting focus from staff and governors to drive up standards and create a ‘no excuse’ culture where every student is given the opportunity to develop the skills they need to be successful in the future.

“As our new principal you will be joining us at a hugely exciting time, leading the academy on the next phase of our development to become a beacon of educational excellence.

“A dynamic and inspiring leader, you will bring an extensive track record of driving academic attainment and curriculum innovation as well as proven success in implementing imaginative approaches to teaching and learning.

“The successful candidate will be a genuine people person with a natural flair for nurturing partnerships and strengthening community relations.

“You’ll be an influential advocate for the academy, bringing a fresh perspective to student recruitment and contributing to wider Aldridge Academy initiatives.

“You will have the continuous support of a committed, forward-thinking governing body and award-winning sponsor, an exceptionally talented senior leadership team and most importantly, fantastic students.”

Rod Aldridge

The Aldridge Foundation, which sponsors the academy, was set up by former Portslade schoolboy Sir Rod Aldridge who made his fortune after founding the outsourcing business Capita.

Sir Rod said: “Phil Hogg and her team at BACA have done an exceptional job.

“Phil helped shape development of the academy before it opened and since opening two years ago results have improved by 86 per cent with 41 per cent of students achieving five or more passes at A* to C grades including English and Maths this year.

“Overall 93 per cent of students achieved five or more passes at A* to C grades.”

In a recent inspection report Ofsted said: “The principal provides excellent leadership.

“She is supported by senior leaders, governors and staff, who share her passion and commitment to achieve the academy’s mission statement, ‘Believe you can’.

“Phil Hogg has helped create a wonderful academy and the opportunity to lead this will, I’m sure, attract some high-class candidates.”
