Hove pub picks up top prize from CAMRA

A Hove pub has been named regional pub of the year by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA).

The Watchmaker’s Arms, in Goldstone Villas, Hove, had already been crowned pub of the year by CAMRA’s Brighton and South Downs branch in February.

CAMRA branch chairman Jason Phillips said that the micropub had now been selected as the Sussex and Surrey pub of the year.

The Watchmaker’s earned the accolade after a vote by members of the other nine branches in the region after unannounced visits to all 10 branch winners.

The pub, close to Hove railway station, will now go forward to the next round of the competition – pub of the year for the south.

The owners Ruth and Rick Evans said: “We are surprised and delighted to have been recognised again by CAMRA.

“We are devoted to cask beer and to supporting independent breweries.

“This is of course is a team effort and we thank our fantastic team – Luciano, Ravi, Jon and Amanda – for their hard work and for being lovely people.

“Customers come back time and time again because we offer great beer and cider, served with a smile and conversation.”

An oasis in the desert of overpriced, trendy drinking places in Hove!

I knew before clicking into this story that it would be The Watchmaker’s Arms!
So proud of this achievement for our favourite pub! Fantastic (and realistic!) prices, incredibly friendly service and amazing ales. Cracking wines, too
We’ve had the pleasure to be served by Luciano and Ravi every time we’ve visited and they are always welcoming and friendly.
The whole establishment is clean, too.
Will done, Watchmaker’s Arms! Marvellous job and well deserved accolade!

Shoosh! They’ll all be going there!
This is a great place to go for a quiet drink and to meet and talk with nice people.
Good choice of ales, cider and wine at very reasonable prices.
They’ll even order you a pizza for delivery and eat it whilst you enjoy your drink!
Very well deserved all and see you again soon!

not for me, most uncomfortable place i have been, seating is awful. ordered a soft drink as i dont drink but my friends do, got well overcharged for a cloudy lemonade that was so awful it made me have heart burn. When i ordered it they looked at me as if i came from another planet.
Just because i dont drink i still like to go to pubs and sit in a comfortable Chair a not a bit of wood.
