UKIP has chosen a Brighton businessman Paul Perrin to stand for Parliament in Hove at the general election.
Mr Perrin, of Woodland Walk, Ovingdean, is financing his campaign by himself in contrast to his Conservative rival Mike Weatherley.
Mr Weatherley is among the Tory candidates to receive support from Lord Ashcroft, the party’s controversial benefactor.
Mr Perrin, who runs an IT company called Immediate Data, has lived in Brighton since 1999 and is married with two children.
He described the United Kingdom Independence Party as “the only non-racial, multi-denominational, libertarian party committed to making parliament sovereign again and to transferring power down to the people, not upwards to more remote, unaccountable politicians in Brussels”.
He has set up a website which can be reached at paulperrin.com or paulperrin.co.uk.
The seat is currently held by Labour MP Celia Barlow with a 420-vote majority.
The Liberal Democrat candidate is Councillor Paul Elgood, who sits for Brunswick and Adelaide on Brighton and Hove City Council. The Green Party candidate is Councillor Ian Davey, who represents St Peter’s and North Laine on the council.
