Watch out for naked cyclists in Brighton and Hove today

The Naked Bike Ride is being held in Brighton and Hove today (Sunday 8 June).

Hundreds of cyclists are expected to take part in the annual ride through the centre of Brighton starting from The Level at noon.

Those who dare to bare – or are nearly there – are due to ride down to the Palace Pier and head west along the seafront past the King Alfred Leisure Centre.

They then turn up St Aubyns towards St Andrew’s Church and the Tesco superstore and ride back into Brighton along Church Road and Western Road.

After a spin through The Lanes and the North Laine, they head up St James’s Street, along St George’s Road and down Eaton Place towards Duke’s Mound.

The eight-mile ride is due to finish at Black Rock by the nudist beach, with a party from 5.30pm at the Sand Sculpture Festival.

According to the Naked Bike Ride page on Facebook, more than 600 people are planning to take part or watch.

A poster for the event said that it was a protest against car culture and climate change, a demonstration of cyclists’ vulnerability and strength in numbers and a celebration of bikes, bodies and low-impact living.

Perhaps these cyclists could learn how to ride their bikes properly, follow the rules of the road, consider other road users, signal their intentions, and obey traffic signs?

Or they could take their clothes off? Good old irresponsible eco-activists!

Typical miserable negative comment from Patchy.

What a great event this is, only in this city would something like this become part of the furniture. What a great place and so many great people.

I forgot this was on today, instead we enjoyed the delights and safety of the Lewes Rd cycle route, a project that demonstrates that good quality cycle infrastructure can be built in the city. I counted 45 cyclists between The Swan at Falmer and Elm Grove.

Keep up the good work nudies!

Clouseau – Well you call it a great event – I call it irresponsible and IMHO they need to understand they are the vulnerable ones on the roads and have to learn to cycle safely because of this, rather than expecting everyone else to look after them because of their arrogant eco-activism.

It’s very sad that the irresponsible greens encourage irresponsibility in others if it suits their objectives.
