A Brighton bingo hall is to close with the loss of up to 27 jobs.

Beacon Bingo, in Moulsecoomb Way, Moulsecoomb, is scheduled to close on Sunday 28 February after an unnamed buyer made an unsolicited offer for the site.

The owner, a company called Praesepe, said: “Beacon Bingo has announced today its Brighton venue will close on (Sunday) 28 February due to an unsolicited offer for the club from a third party.

“Beacon Bingo is part of the Praesepe group of companies and a full consultation process has been entered into with the staff, the purpose of which is to explore ways of avoiding or minimising the potential risk of any redundancies.

“Every effort will be made to seek redeployment opportunities within the Praesepe Group.”

Larry Kehoe, operations director at Beacon Bingo, said: “As part of our continuing plan to ensure the future viability and profitability of the Praesepe Group, we regularly review our property and business portfolio.

“Following a recent review and after careful consideration of the potential impact both commercially, as well as for our customers and employees, it is with regret that we can confirm the impending closure of Brighton Beacon Bingo.

“The outstanding contribution of all staff and management at this club has enabled us to provide a great service to the local community.

“Unfortunately, despite these efforts, the club has continued to make a trading loss.”

Brighton Beacon Bingo has run the bingo hall since November 1996 and it will continue to operate as normal until it closes, the company said.

It added that Beacon Brighton could not confirm the third party involved for legal reasons.

Right, that will be a housing estate/complex/tower planning application before too long then. Good!

I doubt any housing will come out of this. I just hope that the jobs lost will be replaced by the new owners.
