A teenager has been seriously injured while riding an e-scooter after a crash with a Range Rover yesterday.

The 19-year-old is in hospital in a serious condition.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash, which happened at about 6.50pm in New England Street close to the junction with Elder Place.

Officers are appealing for any witnesses, or anyone with relevant CCTV or dashcam footage of the vehicles involved to come forward.

Information can be reported to Sussex Police online or email: collision.appeal@sussex.police.uk and quote Operation Goodrich.

I thought they were banned ? Certainly the police do not enforce any such ban

Since they are rented in half the UK cities the police have rightly decided to stop wasting resources on enforcement of outdated laws. They have better things to be doing such as stopping domestic abuse and stopping drug dealing, not enforcement of nonsense. Obviously a few car drivers will get upset, but that happens with any new mode of transport.

I doubt if any of those that ride these things have any form of insurance or formal training . I have seen many of these riders without any sense of care for either pedestrians or road users

What a shame that a rider of an illegal vehiicle that is uninsured ,unregistered ,untaxed and no doubt has no lights and therefore has no right to be on public roads has got injured. It is about time these scooters are targeted by a police crackdown and everyone confiscated and destroyed as is done with uninsured ,unregistered, unlicensed or faulty cars.Furthermore it should be made illegal to sell any such item nationwide.
It would benefit the country by not wasting money importing these scooters, also it would stop black clad hooded scrotes with no lights on their scooters delivering drugs to order at night.

All scooters have lights and brake lights! And I see many black clad hooded thugs in cars aswell you know,
As for tax they are exempt being electric, as are electric cars,
I’m going to assume it was the range rovers fault, we all know the drivers to them, probably a drug dealer and drove off because probably had drugs on board.

So many morons driving range rovers around Brighton, an urban city. Real shame to hear someone has been hit by an idiot driver no doubt texting at the wheel

The car driver (provided that he had insurance/MOT etc) was legally entitled to be on the road – the idiot on the E-Scooter wasn’t…

So that justifies nearly killing someone through poor driving… Sounds about right

          Steve,
Just yesterday I watched one of these illegal E-Scooter riders travelling up Bear Road between two cars with scarce a foot or so between him and the front vehicle.
If the front car had had to brake for any reason the idiot on the scooter would have been squashed between the two cars.
I suppose you would have blamed the drivers for that as well.
It’s time these senseless scooters which have no health benefits were removed from our streets. If you want the healthy option walk or cycle.

Actually they are not illegal, just not liked.
And no health benefits really it’s electric you moron, your car has no health benefits.

No mention anywhere of poor driving.

Almost certain to be e scooter being ridden badly. They always are.

and the basic fact that if the illegal e-scooter wasn’t on the road, as it shouldn’t be, the crash would not have happened.

Further more the 19 yr old is an adult by law and should know his vehicle is illegal in this country .Why do the Police allow these scrotes to zoom aroung putting toddlers ,the elderly and disabled in danger by their lunatic antics on the road endagering lives by making pavements .roads and footpaths dangerous for pedestrians just as a lunatic majority of cyclists do..The ex green local council are responsible for this flouting of the law.Having seen these lunatics and their antics round town I would be happy to see a police creckdown on thse irresponsible and seemingly ignorant flouters of the law. However due to the fact that Woke and Champagne Socialists rule Brighton now I doubt whether things will change .It seems anything to make our city safe and our country safe gets ignored by the left and the Woke ie illegal immigrants in boats ,crime and illegal e scooters.

If we had less morons driving range rovers in city centers and more people on electric scooters I dare say there would be less fatal accidents and less pollution. Why does someone need to be driving a 2 ton off road 3 ltr diesel in a city? Nothing about left wing politics morons in range rovers are still morons in range rovers destroying the planet because they have some weird status to prove. Pathetic small man syndrome
