Motorhomes move on after teen arrested

UPDATE: About a dozen motorhomes have moved on from a Tesco car park after a teenage boy was arrested for a firearms offence.

The vehicles started arriving at the car park in Church Road at about 6pm last night. Police said they subsequently received several reports of antisocial behaviour connected to the group.

Locals say the George Street Tap was targeted. Brighton and Hove News has contacted the Stonegate Group, which owns the pub.

A police spokesman said: “Police were made aware of an unauthorised encampment in the car park of a Tesco in Church Road, Hove, on Thursday (22 August).

“Officers responded to a number of reports of anti-social behaviour connected to members of the group.

“A 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of a firearm after being with a BB gun. He remains in custody at this time.

“The group has now left the area. Sussex Police will continue to engage with relevant partners.”

One shopper said numberplates were removed from the motorhomes as they arrived in the car park, which has cameras operated by a parking enforcement company.

This morning, Tesco spokesperson said: “Our Hove Superstore is open as normal and we apologise for the inconvenience.”

A spokesperson for Brighton and Hove City Council said: “Our team has been in contact with this group and carried out a health and welfare visit.

“However, the council does not have enforcement powers over private land, such as supermarket car parks, and so the next steps would be for the supermarket and Sussex Police to decide upon.

“We will continue to monitor the situation and offer assistance if needed.”

Should never have removed the height barrier.

Maybe large concrete blocks needs to be placed around one or two of these vehicles. They may quickly decide to move

The untouchables were everywhere, adults causing trouble inside and the scrotes outside.

Ironically, private land all they have to do is ask them to leave once, then it’s trespassing and the police can arrest.

Only on Residential land. Tesco is a commercial business for whom the Trespass law is different.

Photo shows them all parked in disabled bays. How disrespectful and selfish? Hope they either had valid blue badges or a Conscience… but then again. Maybe not….
