A Hove bar and night club has withdrawn its application to extend its hours.

Caps and Sarasota, in Western Road, Hove, wanted to open until 6am, with no drinks being served and no music being played after 5.30am.

The applicants, Laden Eshgi-Nikkhah and Mehrdad Eshgi-Nikkah, amended their application to 3am.

The premises is currently licensed until 2am.

Sixteen representations were received, according to Brighton and Hove City Council.

They were received from local residents, residents’ associations, the two councillors for Brunswick and Adelaide ward, Sussex Police and the council’s environmental protection team

Objectors had concerns relating to the prevention of crime and disorder, the prevention of public nuisance and the protection of children from harm.

Paul Elgood, a Liberal Democrat councillor for Brunswick and Adelaide, said that the application had been due to be heard today (Friday 8 October).

Councillor Elgood, writing on his blog, said: “This is very good news for residents.

“They were extremely concerned at the impact this application would have had.

“Western Road in Hove can take no more alcohol licences.

“The area simply cannot cope any further.

“I am personally very relieved to see this withdrawn.

“I would like to thank the residents who stood up against this application.

“I appeal to future applicants to put the needs of this local area first.

“These late night applications are impacting negatively on our community.”

Details of the application can be seen here.
