Armed police staked out a mews in the North Laine in the early hours of this morning in search of violent intruders who broke into a nearby flat and threatened those inside.
Officers were first called to a flat in Dyke Road, Brighton, after two women and a man were threatened by violent intruders who broke in at about 4am.
All three managed to escape to a neighbouring property and were removed to safety by police.
Armed officers were later spotted in Trafalgar Street, and others in Gloucester Street and Sydney Street. One passer by said the armed officers appeared to be staking out St George’s Mews, which connects Trafalgar Street and Gloucester Street.
A police spokesman said: “Following enquiries, a search was made in the North Laine area of the city. Three men, aged 26, 27 and 37, were arrested in connection with the incident and currently remain in police custody.
“An investigation is ongoing and anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious, or who may have other information, is asked to contact police online or call 101, quoting serial 132 of 23/03.
“Alternatively, please visit the Crimestoppers website or contact the independent charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
