Giant waterslide comes to Brighton

Giant waterslide comes to Brighton

Brighton residents are being given a unique chance to take a thrilling ride down a 100m water slide in the heart of the city centre when the RNLI’s Slipway Slide visits Brighton next month.

Slipway slideSlipway Slide, a 100m long water slide, will be coming to Edward Street on 21 March and 360 lucky winners will get the chance to have a go in front of their friends and families.

The slide has been created especially for the RNLI, the charity that saves lives at sea, and will also be rolled out at events in Plymouth and Bradford later this year.

Only 360 lucky winners – drawn from a text ballot – will get to ride the slide, but the RNLI is inviting friends and families along to watch the spectacle and cheer on those lucky sliders.

Tim Robertson, Innovation Project Manager, said: “Slipway Slide is a really unique spectacle for Brighton as riders get the chance to slide down one of the town’s busiest streets.

“RNLI lifeboat crew members are on-call 24/7. Most have a full-time day job, but they carry a pager and, when it goes off, they rush to the lifeboat station and launch the lifeboat – often down a slipway – to rescue those in danger.

Tim continues: “All profits from the event will go to saving lives at sea. This means crew members have the right kit to keep them safe and dry, and vital training to ensure they bring everyone home safely.”

The slide will be in action from 11am until 4pm on Saturday 21 March on Edward Street, just behind the Pavilion (please note the road will remain closed for this event).

Anyone interested to be in with a chance of sliding should text their first name and last name to 82727. Texts cost £1.50.

You must be aged 18 or over to enter and T&Cs apply, visit slipwayslide.rnli.org/BrightonTerms

Sliders are asked to wear clothing that covers their arms and legs and be prepared to get wet. Lilos for sliding are provided.

Pretty poor show to not bother mentioning this was first done in Bristol last year, so not exactly “unique”. It was free to register in Bristol too.

I believe it’s also since been copied in Canada too.

That said, it was a big success so good on Brighton for doing the same.

The main road to the police station and hospital will be closed so people can mess about on a giant water slide?

I have heard it all now.

Mind you it’s been closed for 15 months already so why not turn it into a fun fair, we can laugh through the agony that is BHCC.
