Brighton flytipper given suspended prison sentence

One parking warden is attacked or abused every week in Brighton and Hove

Brighton Magistrates' Court

A flytipper from Coldean has been given a 24-week prison sentence suspended for two years after dumping flooring waste in Lewes Road, Brighton.

Charles Brazil, also known as Charlie Brazil, 38, of Ridge View, Coldean, was also ordered to do 50 hours of unpaid work for the community when he appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court.

The bench ordered him to pay £500 compensation to Brighton and Hove City Council towards the cost of clearing the rubbish dumped by Brazil.

And he was landed with a bill of £750 for legal costs and a £115 victim surcharge, making £1,365 in total.

Brazil was also made the subject of a three-month drug rehabilitation order.

He admitted dumping the rubbish without a permit yesterday (Wednesday 2 August) after being arrested on a warrant for not turning up for his case there last month.

He twice left rubbish in April next to his caravan which he has been ordered to move from land by the Lewes Road viaduct by noon tomorrow (Friday 4 August).

And he has been served with an injunction lasting until February next year to try to stop him despoiling parts of Brighton and Hove.

This is not his first conviction for flytipping but if he is caught within the next two years he faces being sent straight to prison.

The flytipper should have been given six months community service picking up all the rubbish around Brighton.
