Fancy making Brighton Buttons?

Brighton Buttons

Brighton Buttons

I was pleasantly surprised when I recently discovered that Brighton has it’s very own Button. But it’s nothing to do with clothing, it’s a yummy treat!

Got a spare 30 minutes? As this is all it will take you to prepare and cook – easy peasy!

They are really simple, cheap and fun to make (with or without the kids help) and you only need 5 ingredients – Go on, have a go!

Here is our unique take on the original biscuit recipe – scones!

In order to create 5 delicious scones you will simply require these 5 ingredients:

4oz of plain flour, 1oz of icing sugar, 4oz of butter, 2 satsumas or oranges, Apricot jam

Here are 12 easy to follow photos of each stage. Enjoy x

1. Gather your 5 ingredients – 4oz of plain flour, 1oz of icing sugar, 4oz of butter, 2 satsumas or oranges, Apricot jam
2. Place 4oz of plain flour, 1oz of icing sugar and 4oz of butter onto scales all in one go (4oz + 1oz + 4oz = 9oz)
3. Transfer 3 ingredients from the scales into a mixing bowl
4. Mix the 3 ingredients together with your hands until it becomes like a dough ball
5. Grate the rind of the satsumas/oranges into the bowl
6. Mix the rind into the dough ball without licking your fingers!
7. Don’t bother with a piping bag, just grab little dollops and place onto baking sheet on top of baking tray
8. Slightly flatten your dollops with a tea spoon and then place into the oven and cook at 180°C for 15 minutes
9. Once cooked, take out of the oven and allow to stand for one minute, then remove from tray with palette knife
10. Place yummy treats onto a plate (without eating any just yet!)
11. Add a dollop of Apricot jam onto half of the treats and squidge the other half of the treats on top
12. Sprinkle with a little icing sugar on top of each Brighton Button and share with your family and friends

Buttons maybe, but not scones without cream of tartar (in my recipe, for finer texture) and baking powder to raise them a bit.

    Drop scones?
