Imperial Arcade revamp takes shape

Imperial Arcade revamp takes shape

A long-neglected shopping arcade is “set to thrive again” its new owner says as it prepares to unveil new entrances.

Imperial Arcade was bought by local property developers Moretons Investments earlier this year, and work is currently progressing to give it a new lease of life.

Today, the company published CGI images of new entrances on Dyke Road and Western Road, as well as mock-ups of what the arcade could look like when new tenants move in.

And three vacant units inside the arcade are up to let – two single units at £20,000 a year, and one double at £40,000 a year.

Newlands Commercial has been appointed to find new tenants. Its managing director Richard Lowrey said: “Newlands Commercial was delighted to acquire The Imperial Arcade on behalf of Moretons Investments Ltd.

“From the start, their ambition has been to reintegrate this key site into the Brighton commercial market while offering city dwellings to meet the demand for residential spaces.

“We are excited to see what comes next and are already in discussion with several well-known commercial operators who recognise the potential of this location.”

Cosmetic work on parts of the arcade has been completed and planning permission for new residential accommodation is secured with more development expected.

For more information about The Imperial Arcade and its offerings, contact Richard Lowrey at 01273 779777 or via email at richard@newlandsproperty.com.

Great. Also there’s an exhibition showing in the archade for Brighton Photo Fringe.
Well worth going to see that and the work being done to bring the archade back to life.

Given both these businesses are part of the Blencowe’s Baron Homes empire this is a weird and disingenuous statement trying to pretend they’re two entirely separate businesses. Which is neither here nor there really, but it just makes it all the more worth pointing out. All these supposedly different businesses with different branding and offices, but they’re all part of one empire which has faced more than a few questions about the way they do business.

I didn’t know Newlands was them too – just checked Companies House records, and you’re right.

It always urks me that the Blencowes get paid millions of taxpayers money by the council for temporary housing for vulnerable people (around £18 million in the last 5 years under three different trading names – Baron Homes, Moretons and Chestnut), and the council carry on with the contracts despite multiple reports of collapsing ceilings and concerns about conditions.

I struggle to understand how the council can morally continue to pay these exorbitant amounts for temporary housing when there are so many questions that come up about the properties.

Clearly Imperial Arcade needs attention, but huge question marks about the ethics of the companies involved.

I will fear the worst but hope for the best if Baron Homes are involved.
