What vinyl will you grab on Record Store Day?

As an update from our previous Record Store Day story – read it here – we are highlighting just some of the forthcoming special releases that you might be lucky enough to grab on Saturday 21st April.

But before we go into the list of options, it is advisable to contact your friendly local record shops that are taking place beforehand and place an order for the items that you are after.

This is really essential to you as basically it’s a free for all out there and people from everywhere will be chasing down that same limited edition release that you are after.

So what happens? Well in a nutshell, go through this list and pick the ones that take your fancy, then contact your local Record Store Day participants, which for Brighton are Bella Union Vinyl Shop, Rarekind Records, Resident Music and Vinyl Revolution.

They will then put in their vinyl orders with their distributors (which could even say be 20 different distributors) which will need to be sent by that distributors order deadlines – warning, some of these deadlines are as early as Tuesday 20 March – and then your friendly record shop will be on tenterhooks until about Saturday 14th April, as that is about the time that they will find out the exact record allocation they have been successful in securing for their customers.

Sounds like a bit of a lucky dip really, doesn’t it. But having witnessed how busy previous Record Store Days have been in Brighton, Eastbourne and Bexhill with hopeful punters queueing out of the record shops and right down the streets, then I guess you could actually say that it’s an element of first come, first served.

That’s why some souls sleep outside the record shops on the night prior to the event. I myself haven’t quite done that but I did queue for seven hours in torrential rain to grab some tickets for The Who back in the day. Yes, I got them.

Once in your record shop on Record Store Day, you could even find one or two releases that you didn’t even know that existed. That’s the fun of record shopping. Many a time have I gone out with the purpose of buying one disc only to return home with something completely different.

Some people are under the misconception that vinyl is dead. Well, Record Store Day blows that right out of the water.

So what’s of interest this year? Well, it’s a very varied bunch as always, so here are 30 decent offerings:

Great article. I would have like to have seen Hannah Peel at Resident record a few years back. Still have my old vinyl but a bust turntable.

Maybe a turntable purchase is in order?

Interesting article about where to get some sort after collectors items from some good record stores. I still have all my vinyls and the equipment to play them on.
