Hove lettings agent banned from driving after drunken smash

A Hove lettings agent who police found asleep in his bed after he crashed his Bentley into two parked cars then walked off has been banned from driving for almost two years.

Warren Knight, 50, admitted drink driving and failing to stop after the crash in Goldstone Street on 30 July this year.

When police arrived at the scene, they found his black Bentley, but Knight himself was nowhere to be seen.

They soon discovered he had walked back to his home in Hill Drive, half an hour’s walk away, and gone to sleep.

Yesterday, he appeared at Brighton and Hove Magistrates Court, where he was fined £2,300 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £920 and £85 costs.

He was also disqualified from driving for 22 months.

Another one who has got off lightly. He could easily have injured or killed someone in the state he was in. Yet he gets only 22 months disqualification, whereas it should have been for life. Oh, but of course, he is an estate agent. That explains it.

So? Does that make him above the law ? He will be laughing at this and thinking he can do anything he likes – yes, I do know him!

Your comment is nearly as stupid as his offence , “he will be laughing at this”? Unlikely and he will think he can do what ever he likes ? Also unlikely
Seems to me he done something very stupid he got caught he’s been punished , best move on now ,

You can’t ban someone for life for drink driving! I agree if he hurt someone that’s a different story. He is a businessman who is reliant on driving. A 22 month ban is a fair penalty for the crime he has committed.

He is a businessman who is reliant on driving but still choose to drink & drive, he obviously doesn’t value his job in the slightest so no reason not to ban him for longer. Not only should he be banned for life but all his cars should be towed and sold for scrap, he can buy a bicycle with the proceeds.

I guess everyone has different opinions on this topic. Again scrapping all his cars is completely non sensical. If anything auction them off. Drink driving is hardly the crime of the century. All sentences must have a proportional punishment. Scrapping cars and life bans are massively disproportionate.

Try telling all the people that lost a child/parent/partner/sibling etc. to some drink driving scumbag that it isn’t the crime of the century and see how you get on.

No need to drink any alcohol at all before driving.

I’m sure this person could have paid for a taxi instead.

Before you all go slagging this guy off think about your own lives, I’m sure each and every one you has made a mistake in their lives but are all quick to get on the bandwagon and slate someone else. He’s a decent human being, hardworking and loyal and would be there for anyone in need. He made a mistake, I’m sure had their been people involved he would have been the first to call the police.
Don’t judge before you know all the facts. There are plenty celebrities out there that do worse and are punished less!

There for anyone in need, except for innocent members of the public that he could have injured or killed, and except for the owners of the property he smashed.

Drunk drivers are not decent human beings. Drunk drivers that are wealthy enough to afford taxis especially. It’s likely this is not the first time he’s driven under the influence, it’s just the first time he’s been caught. Luckily, nobody was killed, perhaps Warren can reflect on that while he’s walking to work for the next 22 months.

Are you thinking of Katie Price, she gets away with far worse but that does not excuse this.

It’s lovely that Warren’s pals are sticking up for him here, however, he can be a nice bloke AND make a terrible decision…his mates should probably be honest with him and say that it was a shi££y thing to do, not excuse/enable such appalling behaviour.

Just take a taxi next time, Warren.

People are sentenced for what they actually did not what they could do or what the consequences could have been.

A person who goes through a red traffic light gets a suitable punishment (well if there’s any police around to catch them) for the offence. Of course they could have collided with a cyclist and killed them. But they didn’t.
