UPDATE AT 1.30pm – A body has been pulled from the water after being spotted by a member of the public.
The Brighton RNLI lifeboat crew are searching for a naked man who was seen walking into the sea this morning (Saturday 25 March).
The search has been joined by the coastguard helicopter from Lydd, in Kent, and the coastguard from Shoreham, looking out form the shore.
A member of the public dialled 999 at about 9.15am to report a man entering the sea near Oriental Place, Brighton.
The Surf Life Saving Club in Brighton and seafront officers from Brighton and Hove City Council are also helping with the search.
Conditions this morning were described as calm and clear with a blue sky although blustery. The sea temperature is only about 9C (48F) or 10C.
A man has now been pulled from the sea by a passer by – near the Peace Statue.
